The Brake Components Division, established in 1964, is a leading manufacturer of friction materials, including brake linings, disc pads, clutch facings, and composite brake blocks. Through a long-standing technical collaboration with Nisshinbo Brakes Inc., Japan, the division has developed deep expertise in asbestos-free friction solutions and serves every major segment of the automotive industry. Its leadership spans commercial vehicles, passenger cars, utility vehicles, and two-wheelers, complemented by a strong presence in the railway sector as a key supplier to Indian Railways and multiple State Transport Undertakings.

With four manufacturing plants located in Chennai, Hyderabad, Puducherry, and Trichy, the division operates modern, asbestos-free facilities equipped with specialised machinery and stringent process controls. These plants support a broad product portfolio, including friction materials for automotive, railway, and select aerospace applications. Backed by an extensive library of more than 400 proprietary formulations and access to Nisshinbo’s global technology base, the division continues to develop NAO and low-steel products engineered for evolving mobility needs.

The division’s R&D capabilities, recognised by the Department of Science & Technology, enable the development of advanced formulations and application-specific materials, supported by CAD tools, full-scale inertia dynamometers, NVH rigs, and environmental test chambers. Its commitment to excellence has earned international certifications and prestigious recognitions, including the Deming Prize (2003) and the Deming Grand Prize (2013).
